Why Every Man Needs a Mentor in Life

Reading Time: 3 minutes

It can be difficult to figure out how to accomplish and achieve all that we desire. Time becomes an issue due to increasingly busy lives. You may even feel mentally defeated due to repeated failures. For one reason or another, you may have become complacent.

Having someone in your life that can point you in the right direction and show you the ‘how’ can go a great way in helping you achieve your goals.

I have a few people who have filled this role for me over the years. I also rely on “virtual mentors,” accomplished men of history that can

That is the key to surround yourself with people who will not only support you in your conquests and exploits, but also those who will challenge and encourage you when things do not go according to plan.

Take women. I have one friend who is a wizard in the art of picking up women. We’ll call him Z. Z is naturally charming, good-looking, physically dominating and comes off with an “I don’t give a fuck attitude.” He seemingly gets every girl he wants at the drop of a dime. His relationship with women can truly be categorized as “ALPHA.”

In my earlier years I was blown away by Z’s achievements. I wanted to learn more. I studied Z closely; watched his body language, his interactions – essentially the way he carried himself.  I wanted to emulate and embody these characteristics, and over an extended period I began to adopt a similar persona.  I learned from somebody who had already done what I wanted to do. I limited my mistakes and failures from the start because I followed a proven path that was laid out by Z. I did not have to stumble into the world and learn through trials and errors.

There is a crucial component to a good mentor that often gets overlooked – the ability to give you completely unbiased opinions. You need somebody who will tell you things you may not want to hear, but that are necessary. You may need your mentor to burst your bubble or deflate your larger head after a conquest or achievement. Z is always there to do that for me. If I tell Z about a recent string of women or about a specific night in general – Z is there to throw water on my coals.

I love it. Do you know why?

It keeps me focused on the bigger picture at hand. It keeps me hungry.

Like a distinguished sports coach, Z is there like a master puppeteer – knowing how to stroke my ego just enough, but at the same timing knowing when I need to be reined back in to get on track again. Like any good mentor, Z constantly challenges me and FORCES me to leave my comfort zone and push my limits. I am able to bounce ideas, thoughts and theories off Z; knowing that I will get a no-bullshit response back.

Find your mentor today. If you do not have any close friends who fit such a role – reach out to someone in your life who embodies what you are looking for and ask them if they will mentor you. It is as simple as that. You have nothing to lose if they say no, and everything to gain if they say yes. You will find that most people are receptive to help those who seek advice and need help. I challenge you to immediately get somebody in your life that will help catapult you to new heights – whether it is your career or your social life. Never stop learning. Start today.
